A massive dead whale has been spotted floating in the waters near Tāwharanui,  off the coast of Omaha.

Boaties are urged to exercise caution, especially at night, as the whale may not be visible and could pose a collision risk.

Michele MacKenzie, who discovered the whale, captured some incredible close-up photos of it.

DOC and local Iwi have been notified, but the tide and wind are pushing the whale towards deeper waters near the southern end of Little Barrier.
