The historic Matakana Pub is now The 'Matakana' Village Pub. Built in 1903 in the what has become the heart of Matakana Village, The Matakana is a bit of an institution. It was built from the timber of a single kauri tree by the village post master and after his death became a boarding house for dairy factory workers. It was a restaurant of note in the 80’s run by a Frenchman with a Michelin star tooted on his rump. Three farming couples and three city couples revitalised and upgraded the old girl in 2012 into a cool, relaxed and family friendly village pub. Now in the hands of a new group of enthusiastic owners since April 2016, they plan to continue on the traditions of the pub.

Drop in for a beer, or settle in for the afternoon in our garden bar for a glass of locally-produced wine, a plate of oysters or a hand made burger. Listen to live music or dine with us and try our extensive food and drinks menu including the best steaks in the north chargrilled on our American made Montague Steak Grill.

MONDAY+ TUESDAY: Argentinian Asado BBQ from 11:30am. Join Chef Daniel Castro for an authentic Argentinian fiesta. Premium cuts of meat, slow cooked and smoked to perfection.

WEDNESDAY: MVP Quiz night from 6:30pm.

THURSDAY: Curry night! Chef Sam's famous butter chicken curry, alongside 3 other rotating curries from 4pm! Served with basmati, papadum and chutney for only $22pp.

FRIDAY: Live music every Friday night, from DJs to musicians. MVP x Matakana Butchery meat raffle from 5pm.

SATURDAY: Chefs specials, all day long.
