The Ti Point wharf is soon to see boat and vehicle restrictions. Structural damage means these weight checks will be in place until the damage can be fixed.

Leigh residents received an email from Rodney Local Board member Beth Houlbrooke, which contained the following information:

“A recent survey of the Ti Point Wharf has confirmed our concerns in relation to the structural integrity of the wharf. While much of the structure is in an acceptable condition, a number of the piles and pile bracing are not. Two of the wharf’s piles, including a front leading pile, is believed to be close to collapse.

“Advice from the engineer is to restrict the size of the boats using it to vessels less than 5 tonne, continue to restrict vehicle access on the wharf and limit the amount of people on it at any one time to no more than 10. Signage outlining the restrictions will be put in place early next week.”

Repair work is set to be carried out before Christmas, along with a more comprehensive plan on what may be necessary to completely strengthen the current wharf.
