Walk, scooter, bike – you'll soon be able to pick your mode of transport and experience the new boardwalk over the Mangawhai estuary!
Council contractors are winding up the last bits and bobs of the second phase of the Mangawhai shared path, with the boardwalk open to the public for use from around mid-morning, Tuesday 22 August.
We’ll be sharing some of the background on the art and design of the boardwalk (including info on the name gifted by the Taumata Kaunihera of Te Uri o Hau — Te Ara o Te Whai) later this week.
The first two phases of the Mangawhai shared path is supported by funding from Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (majority grant) and the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund – Infrastructure Reference Group (IRG) administered by Kānoa –
Regional Development & Investment Unit. The shared path improves safety and connectivity between the village and the heads, making it easier to travel by foot, bike, or scooter along busy Molesworth Drive.
