Libraries Reopen

Bookworms rejoice, Warkworth Library is back open for all your reading needs.

Mayor Phil Goff says, “Nearly a quarter of a million Aucklanders use our libraries in a normal week, and their reopening will be warmly welcomed after the constraints of lockdown”.

Warkworth Library welcomed back customers on Wednesday May 20th, after a long nine-week closure due to the Covid-19 lockdown. 800 people visited throughout the day, showing just how much our community has missed their library.

Contact tracing and social distancing measures have been put in place to ensure it’s a safe experience for everyone.

Auckland Council is taking a phased approach to the reopening of its network of more than 400 community facilities, including its 55 libraries, to ensure they meet the strict Covid-19 health and safety requirements.

Mahurangi East Library remains closed for the time being, releasing this statement on their Facebook page: “We acknowledge that this delay may be inconvenient and we appreciate your patience as we reopen our library network with the health and safety of our staff and customers as our top priority”.

They will review whether they are ready to open on Queen’s Birthday weekend.
