On June 21, the shortest day of the year, Leigh locals, and any brave visitors, will take the plunge in the annual midwinter swim in Mathesons Bay. 

The swim is both a personal challenge and a community event, with swimmers contributing a gold coin donation to participate which is then be passed on to community causes.

Swimmers will brave the waters at 10:15 a.m. Upon hitting the shore again, they will be given life-preserving hot soup and baking from Leigh School, as well as tea and coffee from the Leigh central business community.
