The Matakana App
17 May 2021, 6:58 PM
This week, construction will begin on a long-awaited pedestrian crossing on Matakana Road.
The work will include the installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing, and high friction road surfacing approaching the crossing.
The crossing will be located on the stretch of road between the primary school and the roundabout, where there is currently a red, courtesy crossing. The work is expected to take until mid-June, 2021. Hours of work are between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This excludes line marking and line removal, which will happen at night.
Vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction, with temporary traffic management in place. There may be some delays while materials are delivered, so it is advisable to add some extra time to your journey.
Detours will be in place for alternative pedestrian access, and pedestrians may have to use the opposite side of the road for safety reasons.
This is an area of heavy traffic flow where school kids often have to cross the road and local parents and teachers have been petitioning for a crossing here since 2017.
