Mangawhai Region - Wood Street - open

Listed: 30 June 2025, 7:37 PM

Mangawhai Region - Wood Street

UPDATE 29th June

First stage of Wood Street and surrounds revitalisation and stormwater works wrapped up, HEB are now cracking on with the next part of the works. This second stage will take approximately six weeks to complete. More information about this can be found below and on our website www.kaipara.govt.nz/woodstreet

At the old fire station site - HEB are working in the old fire station site and behind Brewed As. Access to the new back carpark and parking between the medical centre and Gringas is possible via Fagan Place. Please do not park in front of the temporary fencing as this may block accessways for the construction team.

On Wood Street - HEB are using a combination of daytime work and night works to complete both stormwater drainage and the new kerbing and footpaths on the northern side of Wood Street, from Molesworth Drive to Fagan Place (outside Four Square, Allied service station and Mangawhai community opshop). The team are working during the day between 7am and 5pm and nightworks will start mid-July. Wood Street is open but things might look a little bit different for a while with temporary fencing and road cones in place. Please move slowly and carefully around the area when walking, cycling and driving.

UPDATE 18 June

The carpark will be open for everyone to use from this Friday 20 June.!!

UPDATE 11 June

HEB will use a combination of daytime work and night works to complete both stormwater drainage and new kerbing and footpaths on the northern side of Wood Street from Molesworth Drive to Fagan Place. It will still be possible to access these businesses, but things might look a little bit different for a while with temporary fencing and road cones in place. During construction a new pedestrian accessway – clearly signposted – will be created to access the shops. Please move slowly and carefully around the area when walking, cycling and driving. If you are unsure about access, just ask one of the HEB team members or phone ahead and ask the businesses before visiting.

UPDATE 16 May

We’ve made great progress with the first stage of the Wood Street and surrounds revitalisation and stormwater works and are on track to move to the second stage in June.

Stormwater upgrade

The HEB team have almost completed the stormwater upgrade across Molesworth Drive, with nightworks planned overnight Sunday 18 May 8pm to 6am to lay asphalt to repair the road. When the road is closed at night a short diversion will be in place via North Ave/Margaret/Findlay Street. This work is weather dependent so may change.

A big thank you to everyone in the area for your patience while the nightworks have been underway and traffic management was in place.

Back carpark

The new back carpark is taking shape with the new stormwater network almost finished. The site has been a hive of activity with 90 truckloads of soil removed and 2,200 tons of aggregate metal imported to create a new base layer. A total of 400 metres of new kerbing will also be installed before the new carpark opens in early June. It won't be long before the space will be finished and we will have a new and improved carpark!

Once the back car park is completed the HEB team will move over to the northern side of Wood Street from Fagan Place to Molesworth Drive (outside Four Square) and also start work on the old fire station site (stage two).

UPDATE:

Wood Street and surrounds revitalisation and stormwater night works update

Night works across Molesworth Drive will now be taking place from Sunday 4 May 8pm to 6am (we initially said they were starting 27 April).

When the road is closed at night a short diversion will be in place via North Ave/Margaret/Findlay Street. Night works are planned Sunday 4 May to overnight Thursday 8 May (weather dependent). During the day the road will be open but there may be some traffic management in place. Please take care if you're driving in the area as it is an active work site. The work is part of Stage 1 of the Wood Street and surrounds revitalisation and stormwater works.

A message from Kaipara District Council:

Construction starting for Wood Street and surrounds revitalisation and stormwater project

The permanent upgrade of Wood Street and surrounds has kicked off! A big thank you to everyone who attended our business and resident pre-construction info sessions last week.

This revitalisation project includes upgrading the stormwater network and constructing the permanent design for Wood Street, including the old fire station site and the back carparking area and playground (behind Gringas). Our contractor for the project is HEB Construction, and the work is scheduled to wrap up by November 2025.

What you’ll see:

Stage 1 (this week to early June 2025)

The work is happening in stages and Stage 1 started this week in the furthest back carparking area. Carparking is unavailable in this section (past the Fagan Place Senior Citizens Hall) while we're working on Stage 1. You can still park in the area between Gringas and Brewed As and the medical centre. The playground will be removed while the team are working, and a new playground will be installed in the area behind Gringas following the completion of the four stages of work. The new back carparking area will be available before HEB starts on Stage 2 of the works.

At the same time, the HEB team are working on the stormwater diversion in the golf course. Work across Molesworth Drive to complete the stormwater upgrades is planned to begin in early May. When this happens, stop/go will be in place on Molesworth Drive and there will be five nights of night works. We will send out a reminder of this closer to the time.

Other stages:

Stage 2 (early June to late July): northern side of Wood Street between Molesworth Drive and Fagan Place, plus the old fire station site.

Stage 3 (late July to early/mid Sept): southern side of Wood Street from Molesworth Drive to the chemist.

Stage 4 (early/mid Sept to Nov): Wood Street between Fagan Place and the old fire station site, including the intersection area of Wood Street, the old fire station site and Ellen Street.

Thanks for your patience while we complete these works. Check out the staging plans, artist impressions, and other info on our website at the link below. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected]
