Wild weather on Sunday night and into Monday morning was a concern for many locals, especially those living in Pakiri.
The area saw heavy rain overnight as an active front moved up the country from the South Island, bringing wet weather and strong winds.
People awoke to find driveways flooded, the Whangateau field was underwater, and stray canoes and dinghies were turning up in strange locations.
At 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning the bridge on Pakiri Road was still submerged and people were unable to get out of the area. Multiple businesses such as Smith Hairdressing and The Omaha Beach Golf Club Cafe had to close due to flooding.

MetService is forecasting an easing trend as the week goes on. The rest of the week is looking mainly fine, but a southwesterly change brings a few showers up the east coast tomorrow afternoon.
