Severe Thunderstorm Warning

  • Area:  Kaipara, Waitakere, Franklin and Rodney
  • Forecast:  At 07:52 am, MetService detected a line of severe thunderstorms lying from TOKATOKA to KELLYS BAY to SOUTH HEAD. This line of severe thunderstorms is moving towards the southsoutheast, and is expected to lie from KAIPARA HEAD to SHELLY BEACH to HELENSVILLE at 08:22 am and from PARAKAI to MURIWAI BEACH to MANUKAU HEADS at 08:52 am. These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by torrential rain.
  • Impact:  Torrential rain can cause surface and/or flash flooding about streams, gullies and urban areas, and make driving conditions extremely hazardous.

  • Period: 4hrs from 9am - 1pm Fri, 27 Jun
  • Area: Auckland
  • Forecast: An active front is expected to move across Auckland during Friday morning, bringing a burst of heavy rain with a low risk of possible thunderstorms. However, there is a moderate risk of LOCALISED DOWNPOURS with this front, with rainfall rates of 25 to 40 mm/h. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips.


Friday 27th June - Rain, becoming heavy with possible downpours in the morning. Easing to showers early afternoon, possibly heavy late evening. Northeasterlies, gale gusting 90 km/h in exposed places, easing early afternoon.

Saturday 28th June - A few showers. Fresh northerlies, turning to strong westerlies in the morning.

Sunday 29th June - Fine apart from isolated showers. Fresh westerlies, easing.

Forecast: An active front is expected to move across Northland during Friday morning, bringing a burst of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms. There is a moderate risk of LOCALISED DOWNPOURS with this front, with rainfall rates of 25 to 40 mm/h. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips.


Friday 27th June - Rain with possible thunderstorms and downpours. Easing to a few showers with fine breaks around midday. Northerlies, strong at times in the morning.

Saturday 28th June - Mainly fine, chance of a shower. Fresh northerlies, turning westerly before dawn.

Sunday 29th June - Mainly fine, chance of a shower until afternoon. Westerlies, becoming fresh.
