Work starts this week to restore the much-loved wharf on the Mahurangi River. The wharf is over 20 years old and beginning to fail.
Auckland Council’s Community Facilities Head of Operations, Paul Amaral, says “this beautiful spot on the river is popular with locals and visitors to the town centre. The community built the existing wharf, in partnership with the council, and a lot has been invested both in it and the surrounding walkway.
“So, it’s been important to keep the community informed about the wharf restoration. The wharf and boardwalk remain open except at the north-western end where the work will take place.
“People are asked to take care in this area and observe all signs and safety fencing. Where possible, use alternative pedestrian routes.”
