Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises of scam alert

Watch out for a scam email asking you to renew your rego.

The email says "your licence plate number will expire" and provides an expiry date that's generally the same day the email was received.

If you get an email telling you it's time to renew your rego, first check it's from us—our emails will come from a @nzta.govt.nz or a @noreply.nzta.govt.nz address.

Our emails will also include your plate number, vehicle make, and your current rego's expiry date—the scam email often misses specifics like this.

If you reckon you've received a scam email, don't click on it or reply to it—report it to us using our website: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/report-a-phishing-scam.

You can also send it to us at [email protected] and we'll let you know if it's legitimate.
