UPDATE 6.30pm - Leigh Road is now open both directions, tree has been cleared and power is back on to Leigh.

A large tree has come down on top of a car on Leigh Road between Ashton Rd and Omaha Valley Rd this afternoon causing the road to be blocked in both directions.

The occupants of the car were freed from the car and no injuries have been reported in relation to this incident,

However, it is expected the road will be blocked for some time.

Detour is possible via Matakana Hill and Pakiri Hill but as the Pakiri Hill road is in bad condition, extreme caution is advised.

Power has also been affected by vegetation/debris on power lines with power outages reported in Tawharanui Peninsula, Big Omaha, Whangateau, and Leigh

Vector's estimated restoration is 6.00pm - 7.00pm this evening.
