The 150-year-strong annual Warkworth A&P Show could be in jeopardy, unless new volunteers come forward to help out.
Chairman Allan Barber and several other committee members, including show secretary Penny Webster and treasurer Vanessa Barber, are planning to retire after next year’s show.
Allan has been chair for seven years. There are currently 10 members on the A&P show committee, and without resources or interest, the show may become a thing of the past.
All A&P committee roles are voluntary, though there is a $10,000 honorarium for the show secretary. The time commitment varies from regular meetings in the run-up to the March show date to “not much at all” between the July AGM and the end of the year. Organisational skills are more important than an agricultural or rural background.
Anyone who wishes to know more about any of the roles, and what’s involved, can call Allan Barber on 027 447 7000 or email Penny Webster at [email protected].
