An active front is expected to bring widespread rain to Northland and Auckland (excluding Great Barrier Island) this evening and overnight tonight.
Between 5pm this evening and 5am Monday morning there is a moderate risk of both thunderstorms and localised downpours embedded within this rain.
Thunderstorms are expected to enhance local rainfall rates (up to 25 mm per hour) and localised downpours will generate rainfall rates of 25 to 40 mm per hour. Note that localised downpours may occur whether or not thunderstorms occur.
Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips.
Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.
Driving conditions could become hazardous, with surface flooding and poor visibility likely.
Take extra care, especially in the many areas within the MCA region that are prone to slips, rivers and streams
