The Matakana Farmers Markets Return

The Matakana Village Farmers Market will be back up and running this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

They will physically reopen, and the click and collect service that they initiated during level three will still be kept going for those who prefer to shop that way.

To keep visitors safe and in accordance with the rules of alert level two, visitor management and contact tracing will be in place.

Some stalls will be taking cash, but it would be best to take your EftPOS card, just in case.

The reopening of the markets will be a great kickstarter for our local economy, as it draws in hundreds and sometimes even thousands of tourists and day trippers each weekend. Although the international tourists won't be back for a while, many people make the trip up from Auckland each weekend to get our great local produce.

The markets are on every weekend, rain or shine, and the Covid-19 pandemic is only the second time in its 16-year history that they have had to close.

The markets create a great platform for small local businesses to get their start, and many businesses that began there are now stocked in supermarkets nationally.

So, if you have an hour or two to spare on Saturday, celebrate the bursting of our bubbles with a cup of coffee while you stroll around the markets. If the outing doesn’t appeal, you can still support local by going to the market’s click and collect store https://www.matakanavillage.co.nz/shop.
