Six major slips on Takatu Road on the Tāwaharanui Peninsula in Rodney have been repaired in time for the busy summer period.

The slips occurred during Cyclone Gabrielle early last year, along a narrow stretch of the road.

Auckland Transport Project Manager North Rural Jay Badenhorst said, “Kudos to the Downer team on keeping the site safe and secure, and working at a high level of efficiency to get this work’s scope and some additional works completed as planned with some weather delays that made it tough at times.”

The nine-month construction included five soil-nailed shotcrete walls and one mass-gravity rock buttress.

Downer Contract Manager Samantha Riley said the construction team worked under challenging, steep conditions, utilising abseiling equipment to access the slips.

“The installation of soil nails demanded a high level of expertise, and we are incredibly proud of our team for their efforts,” she said.
