Remediation work finally underway for Mangawhai road safety hazard

Mangawhai locals will be relieved to hear that long-awaited remediation work is set to begin on a damaged section of Mangawhai Road.

The affected area, near the intersection of Tomarata and Coal Hill Roads, sustained significant damage during Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023.

A temporary road diversion was put in place to maintain access, but a power pole was left in the middle of the diversion, creating a major safety hazard for motorists.

Numerous near misses have been reported, particularly involving drivers unfamiliar with the area.

Kaipara District Council has confirmed that the power pole will finally be removed on Tuesday 29 July, with work scheduled between 7am and 5pm.

Stop/go traffic management will be in place during the works. Drivers are urged to follow crew instructions and take extra care when passing through the work site.
