There has been a serious accident involving a quad bike on Ashton Rd in Whangateau this morning,

we have received reports that a quad bike has come off the road, this area of the road Has a very steep drop and it is understood that access has been very difficult.

Ashton Rd suffered badly from the storms and has had slips that have made it difficult even for locals to use the road.

Emergency sirens have been heard going past from all around the area.

Multiple ambulances, police, fire, and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter are believed to be on the scene.

We can now confirm a family of four people has been assessed and treated, the mother is in critical condition and has been airlifted to Auckland Hospital and the three children are in moderate condition and were transported to Starship by ambulance.
