PRODUCT RECALL: Kmart blender recalled over fears it could 'self-activate'The ANKO Portable Blender has been recalled as it may self-activate without pressing the on/off button if its base is immersed in water. Photo: Screenshot / MBIE

A portable blender sold at Kmart is being recalled due to safety concerns that it may turn itself on if the base of the product is immersed in water.

The ANKO Portable Blender may self-activate without pressing the on/off button, Ministry of Business and Innovation Employment (MBIE) recall notice said.

If that happened there was the risk of serious injury from the exposed blades, it said.

The item was sold at Kmart stores and online nationwide from 23 January until 3 September this year.

Anyone who had an ANKO Portable Blender, which was available in white, blue, green or lilac, should stop using it immediately and ensure it was kept away from any water.

People could return the faulty product to where they purchased it, or contact Kmart if they were unable to return it in person.
