We are still receiving reports of text messages claiming to be from NZTA, various NZ banks and IRD asking recipients to pay a small sum or ‘toll’. This is a phishing campaign.

If you receive an unexpected text message, follow these 5 steps:

1. Check it’s legit - contact the organisation directly to check the message is real.

2. Do not click on any suspicious hyperlinks.

3. Never provide any personal details – including bank or payment card details.

4. Keep an eye on the spelling – spelling and grammar mistakes are a common feature of scams and spam.

5. Forward the message directly to us at 7726 for free.
