The Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway, will not be open in time for the upcoming King's Birthday weekend.

Travelers heading north on State Highway 1 can anticipate significant delays and congestion, escpiecially around not only the usual hot spots like Johnstones Hill Tunnel and Hill Street at Warkworth, but also where the diversion is in place at Puhoi. Northbound travelers will still have to exit at the Pūhoi off-ramp, briefly follow a section of Pūhoi Rd, and then rejoin SH1, this diversion causes delays under normal circumstances.

Holiday makers expect heavy traffic. Alternatively, consider taking an alternate route such as SH16 for northbound travel.

Rumorville whisperers say the new motorway will open next month! Fingers crossed this turns out to be true! The new motorway will reduce northbound travel time by 11 minutes.
