A woman ran screaming from Murrays Bay Beach this afternoon running from a man wielding a large knife. He chased the woman up the beach.

The woman managed to stay out of reach and called police they arrived 10 minutes later .

Local people apprehended the man believed to be in his early twenties. Several people were left hurt.

Police are currently updating the incident.
