Matakana’s own Charlies Gelato has tasted national success this week. 

Charlies were recently awarded two gold medals at the Outstanding Food Producers awards. These awards celebrate both large and small food producers throughout New Zealand, who harvest, grow and produce the very best food in the country.

Charlies entered their Lemon Gelato in the Dairy category and their Feijoa Sorbetto in the ‘Free From’ category. Both of these entries were awarded gold medals and also both were named finalists for Champion awards,

The Champion’s Party was held in Auckland recently, with many of the medal winners gathering together to celebrate their achievements.

On the night, they also announce the supreme champions in each of the categories. Charlies Gelato were awarded Dairy Champion for their Lemon (Limone) Gelato.

Andrew Cole from Charlies said five of their staff went down to the party, and winning the award was a great boost for the team. “We have won a few gold medals in the past, but winning the Champions award is special, and a first for us”.
