There is some good news for those who have been missing their local fresh produce fix; the Matakana Markets are back in business via their new online store.
There are 22 stalls on the website, selling fresh spray-free local produce, baked goods, and other products.
The market will operate through a contactless click and collect system. Orders can be placed through the market website and then picked up from the markets between the regular Saturday hours of 8.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Orders will need to be placed by 10.00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
The Matakana Village Farmers Market has been a Saturday morning staple for a lot of people for the last 16 years, and the Covid-19 lockdown is only the second time it has had to close in all that time.
The market has been a great supporter of small local businesses and has provided many of them a platform to grow, businesses such as Daily Organics and I Love Pies who began there and are now sold in supermarkets nationwide.
So, if you're looking to support local, the markets are a great place to start. Just remember to get your order in by Wednesday and you will be good to go.
