No, it’s not a restaurant! Arborists have been busy removing wilding pines and pest plants and clearing overgrowth to create a large flat picnic space below the carpark.

The mulch from this work will be re-used onsite once the banks have been cleared. Both the track and the stairway down to Picnic Bay will be given a spruce up soon too.

In the new year, work will start on expanding the carpark by 101 additional parking spaces – keep an eye out toward the end of the year for more information.

These works are in line with the Mangawhai Heads Reserve Concept Plan adopted by Council following community consultation earlier this year. You can see the concept plan here.
