VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
An awesome way to “give something back”. Everyone is welcome, including tamariki. You don’t need experience, just a willingness to get involved.
Mangawhai Heads dunes working bee | Thursday 10 October
9am start - meet at the top of the dunes by the carpark, Surf Club Beach. This is a CoastCare event in conjunction with Mangawhai Trackies.
CoastCare groups are partnerships between the local community, iwi, local councils, DOC and NRC, working together to restore our beaches. This includes planting native sand-binders, fencing, signage, weed management, pest control and beach clean-ups. A healthy dune helps protect against erosion and flooding.
These images show the state of the dunes in 2024, showing storm erosion and lack of vegetation, compared to 2016 when there was an active CoastCare group in Mangawhai Heads.
If you’d like to help, come to the working bee, or get in touch at [email protected]. More info on CoastCare: https://bit.ly/4eySsOW
