If you are a keen knitter, there is a great new initiative that will give you the opportunity to use your skill in a social setting while helping others.
Make Give Live is an organisation of people who get together every week or two in their local community space to enjoy each other’s company, a laugh, and make a beautiful collection of beanies that they sell as 'buy one - give one'. For each beanie sold, they give one to a Kiwi in need through various charities.
The purpose is to ease isolation stress and improve mental health and well-being through connection and the well-proven therapy of knitting and crochet.
There are 11 groups of makers across the country, and now joining them will be the Warkworth group. The group will meet every Thursday at 1.30 p.m. in the Warkworth Service Centre meeting room starting on Thursday, July 9. You can find out more here www.makegivelive.com.
There is no pressure to be at every session or to make a certain number of items. It is a group for enjoyment, making friends, having a laugh and using your skills in a way that supports well-being and helps people in need. If you're interested in heading along, contact Katie at (09)427 3920 or [email protected]
If knitting isn't your strong suit, but you would still like to support the movement, you can buy products or donate here.
