A busy night for firefighters as they were called out to multiple fires in the Northland area.

One of the more severe fires was a scrub fire started by fireworks in Mahurangi East.

Six crews arrived on site at 11 pm on New Year’s Eve and worked throughout the night to keep the fire from reaching homes.

There was also a large fire at Puhoi at 1:30 am this morning.

Due to the inaccessibility of the fire, firefighters had to reach the fire on foot as fire trucks could not drive to the site.
