Over the weekend, our area saw ‘Severe Weather Warnings and Watches’ from Metservice in force due to the heavy rain and thunderstorms.
“This warning affects people in the following local government areas: Rodney, Kaipara”.
At 1:30 p.m., MetService weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near Wellsford, Kaiwaka, Mangawhai and Te Arai.
These severe thunderstorms moved eastsoutheast and were expected to lie near Wellsford, Leigh, Matakana and Pakiri at 2.00 p.m and near Omaha, Leigh, Matakana And
Pakiri at 2:30 pm.
On Sunday, Puhoi Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to put out a pine tree that had been struck by lightning. The fire was successfully put out.
Despite the thunder and rain, it was still very hot with an average temperature of 260C.
