Leigh Sawmill Cafe Needs Your Help Leigh Sawmill Cafe Stage - Photo Falcon Events

With the government due to make a decision today on when we can move back to level one, we could finally see a return of what a lot of people have been waiting for; live music.

The Leigh Sawmill Cafe is one of the local favourites for gigs of all genres, and they have joined a nationwide movement to get small venues back up and running after being hit by Covid-19.

Boosted LIVE and MusicHelps started the Save Our Venues movement, a pay it forward fundraising strategy to help raise funds for small venues across the country. Venues are nominated, and then each venue will nominate another venue to kick off their very own Boosted campaign, with their very own seed fund to get them started. This fund consists of a $1000 koha from Arts Foundation Future Fund, $2000 from MusicHelps, plus 5% of their Boosted campaign target donated back to them.

“Covid certainly threw us - was heartbreaking seeing all our shows cancel for months and closing the doors right when we were shoring up for winter.” The Leigh Sawmill team have said.

The Save Our Venues campaign helps to raise some greatly needed funds to help The Sawmill keep afloat, and help support artists booked to play at the ‘Mill so their touring costs are smaller too.

There are seven days left on the Sawmills campaign, and they are at 25 per cent of their goal. If you want to donate and help keep the local music scene alive, head to https://boosted.org.nz/projects/we-love-the-leigh-sawmill
