Metlifecare has officially commenced groundworks for Mangawhai’s first retirement village at 15 Sailrock Drive - just north of the Golf Club.
Earthworks have begun
Set on 13 hectares, the development will feature 160 single-level living units and a 45-bed hospital-level care home. Once completed, it is expected to employ around 50 staff, including managers, nurses, kitchen staff, and gardeners.
The village is scheduled to open in 2026 for its first residents but not fully completed until 2029. It is being designed with sustainability in mind; the villas will aim for a Homestar 7 rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), incorporating eco-friendly features such as solar panels.
This project marks a significant milestone for Mangawhai, providing much-needed retirement and aged care facilities for the growing community.
