Heavy rain warnings extended for both Auckland and Northland
Whangarei region
Heavy Rain Warning - Orange
Period: 24hrs from 9am Thu, 4 May - 9am Fri, 5 May
Area: Northland
Forecast: Expect 80 to 130 mm of rain on top of what has already fallen, mainly in the north and west. Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm/h but up to 35 mm/h possible in localised places.
Note, there's a possibility that the warning period could be extended again.
Also, MetService Meteorologists along with the Northland Regional Council are closely monitoring the situation as this warning could be upgraded from orange to red today.
Impact: Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
Warkworth region
Period: 12hrs from 9am - 9pm Thu, 4 May
Area: Western parts of Auckland and Waikato
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain, and amounts may approach warning criteria.
