For a lot of people, this Friday will be the last day of work before the Christmas break. To celebrate the end of the working year, many will be heading to their local watering hole for a beverage or two.
Home Free is an initiative by Auckland Transport and NZ Police to reduce death and trauma caused by drink driving. During the Home Free period, travel will be free on buses, trains and most ferries. This promotion applies to both registered and unregistered AT HOP card customers.
Given the likelihood that many Aucklanders will enjoy a few drinks after work on Friday 18th December, Auckland Transport is offering free travel from 4.00 p.m. on most AT Metro services to provide a safe alternative to driving home.
Free travel is also available all day on Saturday 19th December, so Aucklanders can avoid driving and use buses, trains or ferries for Christmas shopping, or any other family outing.
AT HOP card users should tag on and tag off as normal – your trip will be free if you tagged on after 4.00 p.m. If you forget to tag off, a missing tag will result in the default fare remaining as a charge on the card.
If you don’t have an AT HOP card, the bus driver will wave you on.
