All of New Zealand south of the Auckland boundary will move to alert level three at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday 31st August.
Auckland and Northland will remain in level four. Further decisions as to how long will be made on Monday next week. However, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says it’s likely Auckland will remain at level four for a further two weeks.
She said Northland was being included because of a recent case in Warkworth at a relatively large workplace and because the government was concerned about northbound journeys.
No one will be able to move from one alert level to another without an exemption.
Ardern said that based on the case numbers today, we may be seeing the beginning of a plateau of cases.
“Today's decisions will put us in the best possible position to give as much certainty as we can", she added.
Today, the Ministry of Health revealed there were 70 new cases of Covid-19 in the community, all are in Auckland. There are 347 community cases of Covid-19.
