Police confirmed that a body was found at Lincoln Street Reserve in Mangawhai yesterday morning.
Waitematā District Senior Sergeant Dean Robert said officers responded to the scene on the waterfront, where the body was discovered within the reserve grounds. The death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.
Police said notifying the person’s next of kin was their immediate priority. Several officers attended the scene, with the Waitematā District Crime Squad also involved in follow-up inquiries.
A blue gazebo was erected over an area of shrubbery near the carpark, and cordons were in place to restrict access while police carried out their work.
Members of the public are asked to be aware that the Lincoln Street Reserve carpark may remain closed for a short period and to respect any cordons still in place.
Our thoughts are with the person’s whānau and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace.
