In the early hours of this morning just before 2 am three firetrucks responded to a large housefire of a three-storey villa in St Mary's Bay, right beside Auckland’s Harbour Bridge.

At its peak, six crews were fighting the blaze as it sent clouds of smoke over the nearby motorway,

Police said the fire had been extinguished at 6 am. 

No injuries have been reported and some crews are still at the scene working to cool hotspots.

The Harbour Bridge's Shelley Beach Road off-ramp is still closed and traffic is being redirected to the Fanshawe Street off-ramp near Victoria Park.
