New Smokefree legislation passed its first reading last year and is expected to become law this year.

This new law will ban anyone born after January 2009 (13 years old), from EVER being able to purchase tobacco products. Yes, that is for the rest of their lives, not until they reach the age of 18 or 20. Forever.

Other rules set to become law include:

The number of retail stores able to sell tobacco products will be greatly reduced for those that can still buy them.

The amount of nicotine in smokable products will be greatly reduced.

If this passes into law, it will be the first and most extreme in the world.

This law will not include Vape products, nicotine gum/patches which will still be available, as they are deemed 'safer' by the government.

Will we see a bigger black market for tobacco products in the near future?

Is this going to solve our smoking problem? Or will it drive use underground and under Gang control?

The government is committing $10.3 million to go towards cracking down on tobacco smuggling into the country.
