ABOUT ME
I started my yoga journey many years ago at the age of twelve and have been practicing yoga ever since.
I was first introduced to Iyengar Yoga at a workshop held by Mr. Iyengar (Guruji) when he first came to New Zealand in 1991. I was taken with the importance given to correct alignment of the different yoga asana (poses) and found that this made my body feel so free and graceful. I have now been teaching and practicing Iyengar Yoga for over twenty years and find that there is always something new to experience and discover each and every time I roll out the mat.
I am passionate about yoga as my art and embrace the freedom it has continued to give me.
WHAT IS IYENGAR YOGA?
The word yoga comes from the root word ‘Yuj’ meaning ‘Union’, the coming together of the body, mind and spirit. Around 2000 – 2500 years ago, Sage Patanjali wrote a collection of aphorisms on yoga philosophy called ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’. The yoga traditions have been passed on, mostly by word of mouth, from teacher to student. Iyengar Yoga is the yoga as practiced by Guruji Yogacharya BKS Iyengar, from his extensive studies of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
The unique features of Iyengar Yoga is characterised by precision and alignment, sequencing, timing and the use of props.
