The Club was formed as an incorporated society back in 1956 after transfer of the land from Mr Wells for 100 pounds. The Bowling Club was created and volunteer labour established the green and built the initial club rooms.

Competitive bowls were played until 2013 when a new constitution was registered which disassociated the Club from NZ Bowls and now provides for the proceeds of any realisation of assets to be used for the sole benefit of the charitable activities of the Point Wells community.
