Welcome to the Mahurangi Rugby Club!
Mahurangi Rugby club was formed in 1989 as an amalgamation of three strong local rugby clubs. It has excellent clubroom facilities with numerous changing rooms, a function room and bar as well as good playing fields. With a sand based number one field and the development of a new multi-purpose sports centre in the near future, the club is expanding to become a top class community facility. The club is situated in a fast growing, relaxed rural environment with beautiful coastlines giving an endless availability of water sports such as fishing, surfing, diving. This combined with the areas numerous vineyards, entertainment, friendly supportive community and the short drive to Auckland, provides the setting for the ideal lifestyle.
The club is always looking for newplayers and coaches at all levels for Rugby and Touch Rugby.
Junior, senior or even those looking for a social place to have a beer, we would like to have you as a part of the Mahurangi Rugby Club. If you are interested or have any enquiries feel free to contact us.
The Mahurangi Rugby Club prides itself on having ¨that old fashioned¨ rugby culture where everybody is welcomed and the rugby is played hard and physical. With the friendly spirit of both club members and the community, Mahurangi is the ideal place to play rugby and make new friends. We are proud to be part of the premiership provincial union, North Harbour.
In 2019 “Mahu” will be fielding a Premier side, under 21’s and under 85’s (restricted weight) The premiers coach this season is New Zealand 7’s legend Amasio Valance Raoma assisted by former Fijian test player Aquila Mata
As well as senior rugby we also have a very strong junior club which in 2017 fielded 22 teams from J8 through to J1. If you are interested in playing rugby in any of these grades with the Mahurangi Rugby Club, feel free to contact one of our Committee Members.
The Mahurangi Rugby Club is situated in the rural town of Warkworth, on the Warkworth Show Grounds. The clubrooms have had a massive upgrade and our facilities are excellent. Downstairs are six changing rooms with showers and toilets that lead straight out onto the playing fields while upstairs are the clubrooms with a kitchen, bar and a large function room. The clubrooms are also open for the public and we are more than pleased to see members of the community and their families come down to the club to socialize.
The Show Grounds is home to rugby, touch, hockey, netball and equestrian, Recent development on our three rugby fields has turned them into sand-based fields making them perhaps amongst the best in New Zealand. Plans are underway to build a fourth rugby field,
The touch module is run by the Mahurangi Rugby club and attracts nearly 1000 participants, consisting of 25 senior teams and 60 junior teams.
The complex includes an artificial hockey field, (The only such field between the North Shore and Whangarei) and netball courts. All fields have top grade NPC level LED light towers. The quality of the facilities is such that “Mahu” has hosted provincial rugby games for likes of Hurricanes and Blues.
