Lachie Hayes is a rising alt-country artist from the deep south of Aotearoa.

Known for his raw storytelling, genre-blurring sound, and strong sense of place. Raised on a sheep farm in the Catlins, he grew up playing music in woolsheds and country halls alongside his family’s bluegrass band.

His debut album Subsatellite, produced by Delaney Davidson, fuses blues, country and rock—full of moody textures, vivid characters, and lyrics that linger. Lachie’s sound is shaped by everyday moments, old Westerns, and the poetic grit of artists like Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters.

Authentic, earthy, and quietly ambitious, he’s part of a new generation redefining what country music can sound like in Aotearoa.

Backed by his band, Lachie brings gritty grooves, soaring ballads, and a stage presence that’s equal parts southern charm and storyteller grit. With singles like This River and S.O.B already making waves, Lachie is quickly becoming one of the most compelling voices in New Zealand’s alt-country scene.
