PROTECT – RESTORE – ENJOY
Snells Beach is a spectacular site to see endangered New Zealand dotterels (tūturiwhatu), migratory bar-tailed godwits (kuaka) and occasionally the critically threatened fairy tern (tara iti), among many other species of wildlife .
With the arrival of humans and all that comes with us – land clearance, mammalian predators and urbanisation, the fragile habitat of the shorebirds at our little coastal town has virtually collapsed.
Imagine how the shoreline looked a thousand years ago.
You can help restore the fragile biodiversity of Snells Beach with small actions that will make a big difference to endemic and native shorebirds.
