If you own a dog and live in — or plan to visit — kiwi zones in the Rodney area this summer, Kiwi Aversion Training is an essential step in helping protect our precious native birds.
Summer brings more people, more walks, and more off-track exploring, and with that, more dogs entering the areas we know are home to kiwi, including the buffer zones around Tāwharanui and Maunga Tamahunga.
A single unexpected encounter can be fatal for a kiwi, even from the gentlest family pet.
These quick 10-minute sessions are a simple but powerful way to make sure your dog knows to avoid the scent of kiwi.
Using specialised e-collar techniques and guided by an experienced trainer, the training is safe, effective, and suitable for working dogs, hunting dogs, and family pets.
Whether your dog is new to the programme or due for a refresher, now is the perfect time to get them trained before heading out on summer adventures.
Join the 250+ local dogs who have already completed Kiwi Aversion Training and help keep kiwi safe through the busy summer months.
Free of charge – thanks to the generous support of the Rodney Local Board
