In 1950, Auckland hosted the British Empire Games (now the Commonwealth Games) — the largest international sporting event New Zealand had ever seen.
Held just five years after WWII, the Games were a chance to celebrate sport and strengthen ties across the Commonwealth.
Our latest display highlights this historic moment through the lens of local sports and clubs, including a special collection of items belonging to Dudley Wright, who not only served on the organising committee but also represented New Zealand in fencing.
On daily at the Warkworth & District Museum from 10am to 3pm.
From Saturday 20th September to Sunday 5th October
